An efficient, compact diode-laser-pumped 2.94µm Er:YAG laser operating at 1.5 W continuous output power in a TEM00 beam with M2<1.2 has demonstrated pulsed operation in the quasi-cw regime with energies up to 9 mJ. Power scaling and output beam fiber-coupling at 85% efficiency in a hermetic package will be described.

Quasi-Continuous Operation of 2.94-µm Er:YAG MIR-Pac Lasers
Sheaumann's diode laser pumped 2.94-µm Er:YAG MIR-Pac laser product [1, 2] may be operated in the quasi-continuous-wave (QCW) pulsed mode of operation, often referred to as long-pulse or normal-mode operation, wherein the laser is operated with pulse durations that are long enough for the laser to reach its steady-state operating ...

Medical implantable devices like pacemakers, ICDs and leads are progressively becoming more compact and lighter. Some of the components used for hermetic and structural welding are still large and thick enough for conventional Nd:YAG pulsed lasers. However, some of the welded components, particularly used for electrical connections, have become so small and thin that the conventional Nd:YAG laser ...
